Daniel,

A couple days ago when I checked into the license terms on the sapdb.org web
site, I couldn't find any clear references to it being GNU-GPL. Is this
clearly indicated somewhere on the web site (before you download)?

I also DID see that there is one restriction: it is not free if used with
any other SAP software. I presume this means R/3? You didn't mention
this...

The question about licensing comes up on the list every few weeks... Maybe a
new page on the sapdb.org web site with links to GNU would be a good
suggestion?

  Stephen

There are (almost) no restrictions on redistributing SAP DB. The only thing
mandated by the GNU General Public Licence:
- you must state somewhere that SAP DB (but not your software) is published
under the GPL
- if you sell your product on CD-ROM, a copy of the source code of SAP DB
must be included
- if you make your software + SAP DB downloadable, a link to
the SAP DB sources must be provided. This has to be a link
to your own server and not to our server as we might change server names,
file names etc.

JDBC and the other programming interfaces
are distributed under the GNU Library Public
Licence. This means that you can link them with your own
software without your software being Open Source.

So you don't have to pay or sign anything if you
want to redistribute SAP DB or parts of it.

For details, you might want to read the GPL FAQ at
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html.
