I second that, I've been using sapdb since day one (well maybe day two) and it is better than any open source database I've ever worked with in every way that counts and at least on par with the different non-free DBMSs I've worked with (Sybase, MSSQL, Oracle, DB2, Informix) for the features we use here.
I've hit my number of strange bugs (search the archives there are many MB of me bitchin about problems), but we've also run a live webapplication with 60000 users (max 500-1000 concurrent), for more than a year with no breakdowns of the database.
The support from the sap-folks on the problems that we've seen has been fantastic, better than what I'm used to seeing on many paid-for commercial support contracts at other companies.
Once you get everything working, the database is rock solid, which can be a little hard, given that sapdb will rather go and sulk in a corner, than tell you what you did to make it unhappy.
One time I had accidently changed permissions on the file that housed the dataspace and on the next restart (many weeks later) of sapdb it complained that my dataspace had gone bad and that there wasn't any more left to continue on so it simply didn't want to go anywhere, I was pretty surprised as the data was stored on a mirror, but as luck would have it one of the sap-people on the list pointed me in the right direction and everything was good again...
Now that my long standing "segfault-on-connect"-bug has been nuked I'm officially 100% happy with sapdb.
