If someone of you wants to start such a JDBC driver on an Open Source basis (not only 
the driver but also the ABAP coding) let me know.
I do have enough R/3 + ABAP + RFC + Java experience but certainly not enough time to 
do it all on my own.
I'm sure I also could provide some infrastructure for people helping on this.
