Assuming your SQL Studio and database server are on the same machine you don't need the xserver for connecting the database from SQL Studio. The xserver is a small server programm which will be need to communicate with the database from a remote host. Because of the lack of a shared memory access from java the JDBC-driver always uses a socket connection for local communication. Therefor it needs the xserver. You can start/stop/install/remove the xserver using the command line tool x_server (x_server -h for more info). If the program isn't in the path you can find it at <independend_prog-path>/bin/x_server. The <independend_prog-path> can you determine calling dbmcli dbm_getpath indepprogpath. So, please check whether you xserver is running or not and if not start it and try to connect via jdbc.
