Hi,
Since your running WindowsXP, go to the Start Menu, All Programs,
Accessories and Select Command Prompt. When the Command Prompt window comes
up, type the following: ping andromeda
You should get something like the following returned if all is working.
Reply from 192.168.0.180: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

Otherwise you might get something like this.
Ping request could not find host andromeda. Please check the name and try
again.
If this is working, try to use just the ip address that was returned from
this call instead of andromeda. If you are using your java client software
on the same machine I would recommend using localhost for your first test.
I hope this helps yourself as well as others.
Brian.

Hi,
No, the xserver is running. When I try your suggestion I get:
c:\Programme\sapdb\indep_prog\bin>x_server start
19422 WARNING: Could not read registry entry: 'Version'
18641 ERROR: XSERVER is already running!
But I still get this error (all on Windows XP Home Edition).
Thanks anyway!
Klemens
