Maybe I didn't explain my problem the way I should have. 1) I upgraded to 7.4 with an error. I rebooted. 2) I upgraded once again by rerunning sdbinst without any error this time and the service has been installed correctly. I rebooted. 3) The service didn't want to start. In xserver.prt, I have the following message. 2003-02-09 10:31:36 0x30C ERR 18353 XSERVER EXCEPTION:0xc0000005 Addr:0x4101af
4) I uninstalled 7.4 completely (-all). I rebooted. 5) After that, I had the same problem not being able to start x_server automatically or manually. 6) I reinstalled 7.3, rebooted, and everything is OK. So, if I install or upgrade 7.4, I have the same problem. I'm wondering if the line 3) tells something to someone. Thanks for the help.
