Hallo Andrea, Hallo Stephen

could you please send us your installation log files according the update to SAP DB 7.4
to find out why the x_server could not be removed during the installation.
You will find these log files in the <indep_data>\wrk directory.

As far as I know you will get this error, when the serv.exe file is deleted before the
service is removed.
So you have first to stop the x_server, then you have to remove the x_server and the
you may delete or update the x_server.

SDBINST and SDBUPD should remove the service before the file is updated.
A reboot should not be necessary.

regards
Christoph Bautz, SAP Labs Berlin

I'm also experiencing problems... moreover, the install/update guide
seems to have been updated today, without notice... I pointed out
a spelling error in the first one (there was an "x_server Stopp"
command, inexistent). And now, the new guide contains a new error!
I copy from the pdf:

...
You can use the following commands at the command prompt to do this:
dbmcli d <database_name> -u <userid>,<password> db_offline
dbmcli d <database_name> -u <userid>,<password> x_server stop
...

The second line is wrong... should be only x_server stop. An moreover,
if I try to upgrade by only stopping x_server and not uninstalling
it with x_server remove (and rebooting) the upgrade process fails.
Does _anyone_ tries the instructions given before publishing them?

I'm really grateful to sap developers for the work they did on the
software, but since there are people using it in production systems some
more attention to this kind of details would be more than welcomed.

Best regards
Andrea Aime
