Hello Andrea,
The installation/upgrade guide has not been updated today. The fact is that there are
two documents related to installation questions and you obviously used both of them.
There is one document "Installation Guide: SAP DB 7.4" which is being updated right
now. Since installation and upgrade procedures depend not only on database versions
but there are also interactive procedures or installation/update in the background,
different plattforms, installations with
databases or without and if with databases it depends on their instance type and all
together it depends anyhow on the installation tool you use and whether the databases
refer to the same or several installations paths .... , they require an extremely
complex description. We noticed that the
Installation Guide: SAP DB 7.4 needed to be reworked. As a first step, we therefore
extracted the really simple standard installation and deinstallation (all SAP DB
Software) into a separate document called "Database Software Installation Guide". I
admit that this one contains the spelling error
x_server stopp (double "p", sorry for that!). As a second step we are re-writing right
now the rest of the former Installation Guide as an "Installation Manual: SAP DB".
This one will contain all special cases you might run in during any other than the
standard installation. It will explain how to
install and uninstall individual SAP DB components their dependencies and how to
upgrade databases inlcuding their software. We did not remove completely the old
installation guide until the new manual is ready to be published since, it contains
many useful information which someone might need
meanwhile.
The new "Installation Manual" and the "Database Software Installation Guide" (without
spelling error) will be published by the end of March/beginning of April.

Best regards

I'm also experiencing problems... moreover, the install/update guide
seems to have been updated today, without notice... I pointed out
a spelling error in the first one (there was an "x_server Stopp"
command, inexistent). And now, the new guide contains a new error!
I copy from the pdf:

...
You can use the following commands at the command prompt to do this:
dbmcli d <database_name> -u <userid>,<password> db_offline
dbmcli d <database_name> -u <userid>,<password> x_server stop
...

The second line is wrong... should be only x_server stop. An moreover,
if I try to upgrade by only stopping x_server and not uninstalling
it with x_server remove (and rebooting) the upgrade process fails.
Does _anyone_ tries the instructions given before publishing them?

I'm really grateful to sap developers for the work they did on the
software, but since there are people using it in production systems some
more attention to this kind of details would be more than welcomed.

Best regards
Andrea Aime
