Will SDBUPD successfully update a 7.3 installation to 7.4 when only one database instance is configured?
That's what it is made for. But you should know that there is always a chance that the migration fails.
Hm, well yes, and it seems that I am the one to find out :-) I'm getting closer, but not quite there yet. I've migrated my database with SDBUPD up to the point of loading the system tables. Then this happened:
[..] > migrate database > switch database state to OFFLINE > current database state is OFFLINE > check parameters > switch database state to ADMIN > switch database state to ONLINE > load system tables > loading system tables failed > load_systab > ERR > -24909,ERR_DBAUNKNOWN: SYSDBA unknown > > > cannot finish instance update for "CODABA" > current database state is OFFLINE > check parameters > switch database state to ADMIN > switch database state to ONLINE > load system tables > loading system tables failed > load_systab > ERR > -24909,ERR_DBAUNKNOWN: SYSDBA unknown > > >
SAP DB instance update exited abnormally at Th, Feb 27, 2003 at 15:24:50
My SYSDBA user is called DSA. So what now?
One more comment on the Docs:
In the prerequisites for SDBUPD it is not mentioned that you have to do a full data backup in cold state.
Also the x_server has to be running. This item in the docs does not make sense:
- If other SAP DB software installations are present on your host, you must ensure that the database instances of these software installations are in the OFFLINE operational state, or stop the X Server with the command dbmcli –d <database_name> -u <userid>,<password> x_server stop
