Hello Stefan,

as long as you do not change the used OS (Windows to Linux and vice versa as only
exception) and the hardware platform, you can:

A) transfer the backup to the new machine (copy the file, carry the tape, use pipes
and remote shell magic)
B) write the backup into a file on a shared directory, if running under Windows make
sure the database accessing the backup remotely, must run as a user and not under the
usual system account (just change the user for the database service and restart it).

Subject: backup remote - recover local

Dear colleagues,

I'm sorry to produce so much traffic today but i have to do a very kick
start.
I want to duplicate my online db locally for development issues.
So I have a remote host and a local host. Now I want to backup the remote
instance and recover it in my local instance.
Of curse I can very easily backup and recover in one instance but I cant use
the same media files in different projects.
So how can I write a backup file to my local harddrive and how can I import
that in my local database.
I had searched the doc for hint, but didn't find one.

Thanks for your help.
Stefan
