Starting with SAP DB 7.4.3 media of parallel backups are created totally independently
from each other during backup. Therefore only one of your 2 media contains the
information, that the backup consistet of 2 parts. During restore the other medium is
restored first and the database kernel asks politely, if you can supply another part
of the backup. This must be answered by ignoring it. The database kernel finishes
restoring the second part, finds the information, that it was the last part of the
backup and restore was successful.

What DBMGUI are you using?

Subject: RE: Restore from parallel device

Hi Tilo,
Please find the files attached below. Also a little bit more information:
I tested again this morning, and started the test by stopping the database
and deleting the whole database data directory (D:\Program
Files\sapdb\indep_data\wrk\MYDB). I then did an Instance->Install->Install
from Medium->Install for Recovery
I then did a recovery using the same steps as I suggested in my last mail.
The only difference was, that after Recovering from the Parallel device the
"Ignore" icon was NOT greyed out, and I was able to click that and ignore
the request for more media. The database came up correctly.
I tried it again without deleting the whole MYDB directory, and I had the
same problem as before - the "Ignore" icon IS greyed out, and thus the
restore from a parallel device does not work correctly. The DBMgui keeps
asking for more media.......
Thanks,
Guy
