I'm not sure that "very uncommon" is reality. I think it depends on how
you use the database - if it is part of an application, our experience,
atleast, is that it is very inconvenient that the database doesn't
"autogrow". For example, if you are deploying it with an app, and there is
no database administrator as such, who's going to do the growing?
Having said all that, didn't I see in the latest release notes that there
is now an option for SAP to autogrow?

I would not name it INITIAL size, I would name it size.
this size can (to some extend) increased by a user.
But it will NOT increase automatically.
And it is very uncommon to 'constantly increase' a database size.
Usually the database is defined, disks are assigned and so on
one assumes to be enough for the next time (counted in years, not
in days or months).
