I've only ever had to do something like this once and it was an ajax call to
recaptcha and I didn't have to swap out any elements with that, (that I
recall).

But this sort of thing is at the very core of why people starting harnessing
XMLHttpRequest to do behind the scenes calls.  Again, I'm not sure to what
level one can integrate this with the admin or satchmo templates/views --
but could be worth looking into.  I just don't have that kind of time right
now.
