It should, since the punctuation is language specific.
For instance
"Don't do that!"
would be in French
"Ne faites pas cela !"
(extra space before double-sign of punctuation in french)

gettext is usually clever enough to help them by tagging the string as
"fuzzy".

It would contradict the English rules of punctuation, so I'm against.
(however, in French, you will have that extra space)
