Details:
know you only do CVS to manage homepages, but git is simpler; see this URL:
http://repo.or.cz/w/newfangle.git/blob_plain/1638dc03995f5879f0c4c8aeaac117f4fe1f5dfa:/www/docs/literate/literate.html
As long as the git-web management tool can serve up blobs with the right mime
type (based on extension?) then it IS a webserver.
As you can see from that URL I had been using repo.or.cz as a web server for
the project, and git repo.or.cz maintainer does the same thing.
However the equivalent URL for Savannah only emits a text mime-type in the
http response header:
http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/newfangle.git/plain/www/index.html
But that's all that needs changing - have a new handler instead of /plain/
maybe call it /mime/ and make it pick the mime type from the /etc/mime.types
file based on the extension in the final part of the URL
