Hi Sam,
At some point, we will be offering either git, cvs, or bzr as a vcs system to
manage webpages. Your proposed solution of using an apache rewrite will not
work because it would force every project to use git. Another problem with
your solution is that cgit would be serving the pages, and cgit it a tad
resource intensive.
An announcement will be made whenever multiple version control systems are
supported for webpages.
