Hi Michael,
It's OK that you don't want to develop (or implement) a full mail interface
for Savannah. But the issue remains that the existing interface loses
information, in a way that surprises some people (me anyway).
Now that we've established that the thing is to be used for special cases
only, I would suggest something like the following textual explanation in that
page:
"This interface may be used to contact members who do not make an e-mail
address public. Note that no record of the correspondence is retained."
That would make the purpose and behavior clear, and avoid the problem.
