It didn't work quite the way I wanted, because I didn't really want all the
commits in the old "master" branch since the branches separated to disappear.
I think I didn't express myself correctly.  However, it doesn't matter that
much.

I cloned the repository into a new directory structure and left my old copies
of it with the two branches as they were.  There is a significant number of
directories and files that I didn't check into the "new parser" branch, but I
will just copy them into the new repository and add them.  There's no
particular need for anyone else to have access to the development history of
these files and I can just keep my old local repositories as backups in case I
find that anything else is missing.
