I guess there is a confusion here. Every bit for GPL-ed free software too
has some copyright holder. In most cases they
are the authors of the relevant codes. So just becuase "M.I.T" is the
copyright holder in this case, does not make it "non-free".
A software is decided as "free" or "non-free" depending
on the clauses in the license and NOT by who has the
copyright for the software.
