Thanks for the bug report -- yes, it's a bug. You've given all the
information I could think of asking, thank you. We often had this kind of
bug, in different parts of the code. In core parts which are commonly
used, I doubt there is still a problem since the core is very tested and
didn't change much recently. Instead, I wouldn't be surprised that in some
cases the last.FM submission leaves a file descriptor open for example.
We'll review the code and fix this issue before the next release. In the
meantime, if you have time to try to minimize your script and see when the
bug disappears, it could help us narrowing down the bug.
