Hi there,
Maybe there's something I don't understand in your request, but it seems to
me that documentation is full of examples with conditionals, and strings and
variables manipulations. I recommand especially utils.liq (in the distro) or
dolutils.liq that is featured here:

By the way the caret (^) is the string concatenation operator.
