This sounds like a problem with Pa_ReadStream.  I'm not sure how liquid soap
is using portaudio so it may be as simple as the buffer size not being large
enough, or it could be a problem with portaudio itself.  I'll try to look
into it.  Unfortunately I've found portaudio's error handling to be lacking
(it seems that it often doesn't pass error information back to the client
code).
