This is what liquidsoap attempts to do, but this style makes it
difficult to interface with an external problem. A pipe provides a
self-contained, working interfacing device, but shared memory alone is
not enough, it also requires synchronization devices, etc. That's why
I'm a bit skeptical that we'll find programs ready to be interfaced as
external video outputs.
