Good Derbail: Just to throw my ha'pennies into the community pot: Any one of these factors may contribute to a better coat all by themselves, and I use each one for different reasons and overall health. My boys still shed a wee during times of stress (ie: a visit to the vet, or a very different and new environment), or the heat of Summer, but overall I feel they have really nice coats. So, for what it's worth, here's our little formula: They eat a mix of Innova adult and Nutro Natural Choice Lamb Meal & Rice. Besides very occasional snacks of my left-over steak or rice or the like, "bickies" are usually from the Solid Gold, Canidae, Karma and Natural Choice lines, as well as Old Mother Hubbard and Three Dog Bakery. I give them a supplement of Lipiderm that is now a water soluble formula of Vitamin E and the Omegas from fish oil ( as opposed to vegetable oil....There's some controversy about high concentrated amounts of oils such as safflower,etc.). Also, the water soluble version is absorbed by the body more readily, and I believe, the excess is peed out. Vitamin E, as a fat soluble, can build up to too high of levels. But, I still do break periods from the Lipiderm. My vet Tom was on Fox News not too long ago speaking about a study on the beneficial function of Vitamin E and fish oils, in the diet or as supplements, in preventing and/or combating cognitive dysfunction in dogs as they age. So, perhaps, more than just a good coat! I also give my gang (the cats and lovebird as well) Prozyme daily. This enhances the bio-availability of nutrients from whatever they're eating. Just food for thought (sorry, I couldn't resist!) from the Men in Black. Greyt Regard, Mevanwy

She eats Beneful, gets regular snacks of apples, green beans, cheese, pasta and the occasional meat. Her coat doesn't seem especially dry, but this is driving me nuts!
