Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a hound
was sturring, not even the mouse
The stockings were shredded by Drumm and Tzati with care, in hopes that
pig ears would surely be there
The finches were snuggled away in their nest, away from that darn Affie-
how they loved it best
And I with my Kleenex and a stuffie head, had just attempted to settle
down in bed
When in the kennel there rose such a clatter, I sprung from the bed to
what was the matter
Away to the kennel I flew like a flash, but shredded were the pillows,
thrown up like a sash
The stuffing on the floor like new fallen "snow" Gave the lustre to the
mess that laid below
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But my Afghans, Borzoi,
Greyhounds, and a Saluki looking like innocent deer
It happened so fast, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment myself i could kick
More rapid than eagles those coursers did clear, away from that mess
they did disapear:
"No, Bluedawg! no, Pathway! no Elsa or Birch! No Crash! No Dynasty! OH
CHARLIEEEEE!!!
To the top of the crates! to the top of the wall! Stuffing and cotton
covered it all!
So outside the coursers they flew, with mouthfulls of toys they made
sure of that too
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the draw, the prancing and pawing
of each little paw
As I drew in my head, and looking around,
Down the steps came Pandora the Afghan in a bound.
What a mess was her fur, from her head to her foot, She was covered with
dirt and twigs and soot!
A bundle of leaves, she had rolled on her back, she looked like a mess,
oh her charm she did lack
My eyes -- how they twinkled -- a thought did occur... how in the world
would i begin to bathe her?
Her droll little mouth was drawn up like a "O", And the cry of her happy
howl was as bad as a crow
The stump of a stuffie she held tight in her teeth, And the beady little
eye pearing behind a leaf
The leaves covered her face down to her belly, I wondered if I could
blame this one on Doug and Chelle
She was a mess and a half, no holiday elf,
And I laughed when I saw her, in spite of myself.
A wink of her beady eye and a twist of her head, Soon gave me to know I
had everything to dread.
She spoke not a word, but went straight to her work, And tore up more
stuffies then turned with a jerk
And laying her finger aside of her nose,
thumbing it at me as up she rose
She sprang to her feet, as Sakeri gave a roo, And away they flew out the
door past Zaboo
I scratched a few ears before they dashed out of sight, off to clean a
mess that will surely take all night!
Merry Christmas from the Half Tailed Pack
