I met a GORGEOUS saluki x greyhound at a rescue event in texas years ago- Stone was his name, I believe- solid white (or very pale cream) with light eyes, smooth coated- absolutely gorgeous fellow. Was terrible with other male dogs though, so we never even thought about him.
I'm really torn about adding a hound to my pack- greyhounds are out for me- I like dogs with FUR, and the greys that my corgis have played with have all been very thin skinned- a bad thing with guys who play as rough as the corgis tend to! Plus, I do obedience/agility too- and I *really* like my reliable recalls. Think I need a lurcher. Are lurchers ALLOWED in SCA stuff? :D Cait ---- Original Message ---- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [SCA_Coursing] 'lukis to the Great War & *Breed* Standards Date: Fri, 31 Dec 2004 10:22:23 -0500 >

> > > > >I have a friend in th UK who has a Saluki X Greyhound, Jonty, who is >the
>prettiest "Saluki" I've ever seen.
>
>Looking at modern sighthound breeds, one can pretty trace the >eastward
>Islamic expansion by looking at the dogs, and how they got larger and >
>hairier as they moved nothwards (Salukis -> Afghans -> Borzoi). >It's harder
>going west, except for finding the Pharoah Hound on Malta and the >Ibizan
>Hound in the Balearics.
>
>As far as breeding "outside the box", so to speak, it >*could* be
>useful....if one were willing to ruthlessly cull probably 95% of the >dogs
>produced--after they were grown enough to evaluate performance, at >around a
>year.
