The bull**** stops when the running starts. That is the problem with
so many of todays breeds--they are bred to look like they could with
little or no attempt to field test the theory. Look at the big
division between field dogs and show dogs in most breeds--it is quite
sad. And the AKC greys trying to separate themselves from the track
lines--even sadder.

There are many Saluqi coursing champions from the US and GB. And *many* of
them didn't start til they were over 5 years of age. But I agree with you
(perhaps with Saluqi more than many of the other sight hound types -- though I
am sure many of you know it was an IG who took Nationals this year) there are
lots bred to be beautiful without a slip of ability to race or be agile.
ESPECIALLY in the US. Which is what SPDBS is about. And which is why I
*plan*
on coursing mine. But educating show judges in spotting breed ability as
well as breed beauty is important too. Perhaps getting more coursers involved
in show would help!

If I could get a coursing group going in SO AZ, I would be happier than
anything! I can't get a hold of the PHX coursing people either, though.
Which
is part of why I joined SCA at long last.

So, come on out to Estrella and we'll put our *money* where our mouths are!
I'd love to have enough puppies present to race my Bedouin-bred Saudi babe
too! *G*
