After years of looking and bugging my SCAdian friends (including
those on this list), I now have picture documentation of Dog Carts in
the Middle Ages!

A year ago, my friend, April K., found a line drawing of a medieval
dog cart in a general interest book about travel in the Middle ages.
Unfortunately, the book did not give which manuscript has the
original drawing. April let me scan the picture, but refused to sell
the book to me.

This week, Melanie who is a medieval re-enactor from the UK found the
source of the illumination. Melanie is on the "75 Years" Yahoo
message board and takes her dog and wagon to re-enactments in the UK.
We were discussing horse carts and she looked at my webpage. She
thought she recognized the artist who redrew the picture from the
original manuscript. She looked up his work in an other modern
(1950s) book. Bingo, this book did list the original manuscript.

It is from the British Museum manuscript, Royal 10 E IV, commonly
called "Decretals of Gregory." (Folio 205?) circa 1340 AD

Melanie's book also had a poor quality photograph of the dog cart
Illumination. Does anyone have any recommendations of where I can
find good quality photographs of the Decretals of Gregary?

I am so pleased and I cannot thank my friends enough for their help.
I have been doing the happy dance!
