Jennifer -
Your tenting/camping set-up sounds perfect. Are Charlie and Pandora Saluqis,
Borzoi or Greys (or something else entirely)? I will work on helping to find
the rest we need to make up the contingent 4 of each breed for next year... I
have a few ideas of where to look. I will be so thrilled to have you attend
next year, it being GW15 and all, besides, I really look frward to meeting
someone I have heard such good thing from and of... <VBG>

Cait- the Afghan hair is yours, contact me privatly and we'll work on
shipping it to you.
Gulf Wars- so that we have enough Borzoi and Saluki, I will work on
attending my first Gulf Wars next year, and will bring three Borzoi and
a Saluki... and if needed... (groan) I could bring Charlie and
Pandora... but I warn you now, I will not be responsible for the mayhem
that Pandora will envoke upon the War! I hope that I don't have to have
"in period" tent / fencing for the hounds though. I wrap three 48" tall
Xpens around a 10X10 EZUP canopy for them (for the strength and
support), and have a two-bedroom tent for myself.
As for recipies for passing out at Gulf Wars this year, I will gladly
submit to this list my recipie for "Home Made 'Canned' Food" which is
currently making a huge hit on the Grey Talk forum, as well as with my
own hounds.
Why Not To Buy A Saluki-
"Cream and feathered Saluki typical of the American Show Saluki"....
Hmmm... so I guess that is the color you would call my American show
Saluki... I need to write AKC and change it from black and tan to
cream... ;-) Last years SCOA Nationals was won by the black and tan
drop dead georgeous beauty Srinigar Azawarhi, who is singally the most
georgous female Saluki I have ever had the privilage of watching. I did
help import a pair of feathered creamies, both from the Al Khabara
Kennel in Estonia, which is also well known for thier Afghan Hounds.
Cream is merely a fad in the current show ring. It seems year before
last was "black eared reds", so who knows about next year. I think after
Alabaster Treasure, everyone wanted a feathered cream.
I agree, the public would benefit from the knowledge of the right dog
for them. I know for a fact you can not just "go out and buy a Saluki",
and unfortunatly there are Greyhound groups that if you have money, you
can have a Greyhound, but if one person can make the difference and help
educate that one adopter/buyer, they can make the right decision and one
less "wrong hound" can find the right home.
Coursing older hounds-
it will have to be up to your own judgement on who to course and how
long. i would suggest making sure you give joint supplements to them, to
ease the joints. Give a banana as a snack that morning, good for any
courser for the postasium. The Pro Plan Performance bars are a good
snack in between that are designed to help rehydrate and put carbs back
in them with out over-doing it with sugar. I personally give mine
oatmeal and bananna's mixed together, for the carbs to stick with them,
and banana for potasium, early in the morning, at least four hours
before they run, or before we go to a show. After they race, or hard
work out, I offer them plenty of water. I've mixed it half and half with
Gatoraide ICE Strawberry, but some don't care for the taste.
