Probably I'm just misconfiguring things or otherwise being dense.  I'm
trying to get my site going using Scalr.net but not having much joy.

I swear I've read the FAQ.

- I set up a farm with a mysql instance.  I set the mysql instance to
use EBS, creating a new volume on launch.  I asked it to auto-mount
to /mnt/mysql.
- After launching the farm I logged into the mysql instance, shut down
mysql, and symlinked /var/lib/mysql to /mnt/mysql.  I restarted mysql
and created my databases.
- I then synchronized the mysql instance.
- After synchronizing, I terminated the farm.
- When I restarted the farm, I expected the mysql instance to come up
as I left it.  However:
