Either upload the files directly to S3 or use gluster for that (search for gluster in this mailing list) If you are using wordpress, here is a plugin that allow you to let people upload files to S3 directy. http://code.google.com/p/wordpress-s3/ If you are not using wordpress, this is a good starting point ;-)
If you are not doing so, you have a risk to loose your data if instance crashes.
