It appears to only be a problem only with https, not http. I had hard coded my site to use https while testing the nginx configuration.
Can someone tell me if I should be changing the nginx and apache configurations through the configuration files on the servers, or whether I should do it through the parameters page in the role setup screen? It seems kind of crazy, as the www parameters page only addresses https, but not http. So I would have to edit it in two places...
