When you set up your db through the mysql lvm role you need to tell it that you want it to use the EBS engine. DO NOT use the EBS tab for it.
When you specify it this way you actually do not have to do anything else....and it works nicely out of the (scalr) box. If your has 2 instances...second one (ant any additional) will serve as slaves and again, automatically be generated from your master. From my experience this works fine.
