I did use my private key but it did not work. However today when I
logged into scalr I was presented with some error messages that may
explain why I couldn't get in:

There was a new one of these every few minutes with a different IP
address. I have the checked the box for "Use Elastic IPs" for both of
the servers in the farm. Any idea what is going on?
