RE: Further clarification of my thoughts on PTA contributions:
I don't believe that the majority of Madison school parents would be
considered affluent.
The monies raised through fund raisers are not a measure of how much Madison
parents have donated but rather a measure of how actively they promote their
school's activities and facilities. Friends, relatives, neighbors who do not
have school age children as well as Madison alumni give generously because
they support 'their' school.
These thousands and thousands of dollars are benefiting the school district
in great savings and do deserve to be recognized.
I agree that we shouldn't use PTA contributions as a single issue that would
close a school anymore than we would use any other single issue to close a
school or keep it open. But a neighborhood's support of their school, not
just in words but in action and funds, should be recognized.
Thank you
