As of about two weeks ago I was starting to feel like I'd gotten this whole "distributed open source project management" thing down. Right now, not so much.
We've now got SchoolTool 1.2 packages for Karmic in our PPA. However, it is apparent that we started the final integration/packaging/testing process about three weeks later than we should have. This was our first release without Ignas or Brian Sutherland playing active roles in release management, and the complexity of the process snuck up on first-timers Justas and Gedminas. They've done an excellent job, aside from overoptimism about the timeline. I've also been spoiled by my long relationship with Ignas and Brian, who did not hesitate to tell me "NO" when I'd try to jam in more features than we had time for, and I was complacent about the schedule. So... at this point, there are a few outstanding issues, which probably will be resolved in a couple days, and when no further crop up, we will officially "release" the new version of SchoolTool on Karmic. In the meantime, for those currently running Karmic, if you want to check out the bleeding edge packages, there is one additional task beyond those enumerated at: http://book.schooltool.org/htmlhelp/install.html In addition to the above, you must create a new file at /etc/apt/preferences; e.g., 'sudo gedit /etc/apt/preferences' and add the following: Explanation: prefer packages from SchoolTool PPA Package: * Pin: release o=LP-PPA-schooltool-owners Pin-Priority: 1001 And then 'sudo apt-get upgrade' This will warn you that it is downgrading the versions of several Zope packages, and your SchoolTool should work then. Apologies for the delays. --Tom _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~schooltoolers Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~schooltoolers More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
