Just tried it here using the following (and it worked):
Rotate the board such that black is on the bottom. Select "Play /
Serious game", use DeepShredder 11, "Use Book", Elo2400.bin, Time+Bonus
5m+11s, click play.
Be patient for the engines to start up...
Shredder plays 1.d4, I answer Nf6, Shredder plays 2.c4, I make the next
moves, all is well. Tried several times. (Scid 4 on Debian 5.)

I admit that I can not confirm this. What engine did you use? Could it
be that it did not start up properly?
