Hello, I have implemented what you would like to see and sent a patch to Alexander. Now filters for the tree and the database are separated, so they do not overwrite each other. In the tree statistics you see all results matching the tree filter. In the game listing you see all games matching both. The change is not a small one, so give him some time to check it.

So I want to change it. For my self that is, as it seems that the majority of us stakeholders does not agree. Can someone point me to the code where the interference happens? I tried to find lines of code where the tree takes ownership of The Filter. The tree sets and clears my filter at its own will. I do not want that. If I need tree statistics on games played by players rated above 2400, I want to be able to do that, just be setting the filter. Of course one can ask me to export those games into another base - I currently do this, but I do not want to be forced keep my bases in sync manually for ever. Another thing is that the user can manually kill the filter (as set by the tree!) at all times by hitting ctrl/f. At that moment the main filter status and the tree filter status (at the bottom of their respective windows) seem to agree, yet the tree info is - of course - unchanged while at the same time a function like "best games" does no longer work. It just shows the best games in the base, possibly unrelated to the current position. Might be a corner case fault tolerance problem, might be not. Anyway, I will be looking for a solution like we have two filters cascaded. One for the user to play with, and one for the tree to manage its own implementation. Challenge would be to bypass the tree cache if the user filter is active... and probably many others. As an example: Also the tournament cross-table function takes my filter to do its work, with irritating side effects. Finally, as I still do not understand the tree mask feature: Would it be possible to attach a (header) filter to a mask, or am I talking nonsense now?
