I am a semi-pro (IM 2424) and have been using databases for a long time. I
used mainly Chess Assistant for years and Chessbase occasionally until last
year. I have now switched to Scid and am very happy. Both CA and CB crashed
regularly and if you don't have your disk with you.......if you do you have
to do a reinstall, update etc. Annoying during a tournament.
This happened to me this year while playing in the Kuala Lumpur Open. I
downloaded Scid and have not had a problem since. It has not crashed once
yet. I search for my opponent, decide what to play, generate an opening
report and check my ideas with Fire. This is what all professionals I know
do, look up opponent, search for an idea and check it with the help of an
engine.
Scid does that job and does it well.
Thanks to all involved.
