Great to hear that more pros/semi pros are using Scid. I am an FM myself and
have a hard time convincing GMs/IMs to use Scid. This is mainly because they
are
used to a certain GUI and want to focus on openings instead of the GUI. There
are a few titled players on this forum.

With Scid, there are frequent updates and bug fixes as well and the benefit is
exemplified if one is not using windows. I cannot count the number of
failures/crashes I have had with chessbase. Eventually, I had to create PGN
backups of all my databases in order to have some sense of stability.

Subject: [Scid-users] Chessbase/assistant comparison

I am a semi-pro (IM 2424) and have been using databases for a long time. I used
mainly Chess Assistant for years and Chessbase occasionally until last year. I
have now switched to Scid and am very happy. Both CA and CB crashed regularly
and if you don't have your disk with you.......if you do you have to do a
reinstall, update etc. Annoying during a tournament.
This happened to me this year while playing in the Kuala Lumpur Open. I
downloaded Scid and have not had a problem since. It has not crashed once yet.
I
search for my opponent, decide what to play, generate an opening report and
check my ideas with Fire. This is what all professionals I know do, look up
opponent, search for an idea and check it with the help of an engine.
Scid does that job and does it well.
Thanks to all involved.
