Personally I would find built-in links in game headers quite annoying, so annoying indeed that I doubt that I would keep using SCID. Further, TWIC is not the ultimate source of the games listed there, nor does it enjoy any sort of rights to these games. Chess games are not subject to copyright.
It's important to note that the TWIC download page is freely exposed to anyone who wants to write a python, perl or ruby script to download its contents, and never look at its ads. It's a rather safe bet, also, that both Chess Assistant and ChessBase employ either built-in network procedures to download from TWIC or scripts run in their respective home offices where they assemble their own libraries of games. None of this has caused the demise of TWIC. If TWIC really regarded automated downloads as a threat, they would put a captcha between the internet and their download page, which they haven't done. So I don't think this project should concern itself at all with the notion that a built-in network procedure in Scid would hurt TWIC. It is perhaps worth pointing out that if TWIC for some reason stopped freely publishing games, someone else would take it up (which is, I suspect, why TWIC employs no captcha on its download page). TWIC doesn't own this data.
