valuable work by Franz, indeed. Could be a bit more public
(ie. easier to find ;) but once you found the URL :)

But I discussed the issue a while ago with Franz (as I was
about to start to write my own tool which I found is not at
all that easy) in the context of chessX/newscid when I asked
him if there is a possibility to use his code and if I got
him right quite some work is involved on his side to provide
this data. And if I got him correctly this is mainly as he
uses a program he wrote but is a bit in the state of a
"hack". Again if I got him correctly this is mainly as he
could not add it to scid himself and does not know the
internals of scid good enough. So it came to my mind wether
it could be possible to help him as well. You seem to know
the internals of Scid pretty well and so I thought it might
be easier to just download the raw data add it to scids
internal structures and let scid write the file to the disk,
that way enabeling a "clean" way to update these files.

I've similar idea for TWIC where I use some perl-script to
fetch them and if I've some time I'd probably port that to
Tcl/Tk to incorporate it into scid as well. But there I'm
not sure that the direct coupling to a database is the right
thing as e.g. I fetch a year and then use scid to sort out
the duplicates before adding it to my main database. So
probably this is a thing better done externally. (I do not
use the fetcher provided with scid as I want a Source-line
in the headers.)

This would probably an easy adoption and very nice in the
first place. Some sort of "check for update" that fetches
Franz' files if necessary.
