Why? One could first adopt the easy parts. If I follow you
it means touching almost every UI part to move to the new
widgets. This will take some time, I guess.

I saw that and generally I'm really for going to 8.5. Its
just a feeling that it is a bit to early for the general
community as there're only very few and very recent
distributions that come equipped with 8.5. Due to the
incompatiblity of 8.4 and 8.5 I suspect more trouble than
help from an to early migration.

I do not think this is a good idea. In this case it would be
better to add some script to the installer that fetches
Tcl/Tk and installs it. But even this I'd not consider a
good solution due to probable clashes with an existing
installation.
(Put to the extrem, just to mark the point: we could also
deliver a Life-DVD containing Linux with a whole Gnome
desktop and a launcher in the middle for running scid ;)
