Separate databases are better for this, I think, as those are likely to 
contain positions, not games.

As for tags, the feaure I miss very much is custom tags, preferably with 
tree-like classification, such as (for tactical database):
Mate combination
--- Q+N
--- R+R
Endgame tactics
---- Promotion
---- Mate
---- Stalemate
etc.
Perhaps this can be done via separate file?

Mate in 1 is useful as separate training database. Probably other mate 
databases are not so useful (you don't need to find mate in N in your game, 
it is enough to see forced mate). And I would prefer having player names too 
there.
