Hello again,
I just reread the monster thread about CentriScid. I can't synthetize
everything yet, as my notes are too big for now and I need to wash dishes
before bed. But I promised some feedback.
The discussion seemed at first to go in lots of direction, but that was an
effect of the sheer size of the reading to do. I enjoyed rereading the
discussion. I realize that I assumed that it is possible and wlecome to
refer to something else than a game. I supposed we want to refer to a
position. Maybe it's just me, so I must ask :
Do we want to identify positions ?
I don't even know if it's possible. I suppose it is, in a very moot way :
you put a diagram symbol. But what would facilitate the creation of
training bases would be the marking of some situations in a game, in a way
that each could situation be exported by itself to an external database, or
in a way that we could refer to it from the outside.
Take for example when we filter a database according to a game position. We
can jump to the position we searched. In the same way, I would like to jump
to a position I marked.
I don't know what kind of marking we need or can do here. What I do know is
that is a very natural operation : it's the same as when one reads book and
marks it. Just imagine that you could list every part of a book you marked,
with **the proper reference**.
Here is Alex's example regarding a similar topic :
(XYZ) Mueller, Anton Michael vs. Werner, Hans-Martin, Zuerich 2005,
round 7 game 2.
Here is what I am asking for is something like these :
(XYZ, 23.?)
(XYZ, 64...?)
(XYZ, 89. ?, note by Keres)
(XYZ, 89. ?, note by Smyslov)
The "23. ?" is a conventional way to refer to a situation, that we can see
as a diagram, usually. One can think of a situation like a position
(FEN-wise), along with an occurence (what is described by XYZ). So a
situation is a state that could be pinpointed more precisely than an overall
game.
This request has not only historical purposes. If we could do that, we
could also find all the comments related to a situation. If we could do
that, the next step could be to link these IDs to FENs ; then we would build
very neat opening databases, along tactical and ending databases.
If we can deal with these kinds of reference in a way that does not imply
any programming, so much the better. I would even settle for manual
manipulations, as I prefer this kind of activity to tagging. But even then,
I am at loss as to how to proceed.
Good night,
B
