Yes, this is an issue with Debian as well. Actually, one of the reasons why I'd prefer to split the scid package into the core and the additional files. The current packaging on the other hand is AFAIK easier for Pascal to handle. > Is it reasonable to put precompiled binaries for popular > distributions on the sf project page? IMHO the best way would be for scid to make it into the Fedora distribution. The other way would be an easy way to build the Fedora RPM from the scid source. Do you see a way to get this? Something like configure --fedora or the like that results in an RPM in the end? (Willem: --debian would be another target.) Concerning binaries for download (deb, rpm...) I think we should check with Pascal what he thinks about could/should be provided. I think the least that can be done is to point to your site for an RPM download for Fedora. Concerning putting the RPM itself to the sf pages: I'd have in mind that this is perfect now but it might happen that you'll not have the time to maintain it anymore. If its done on an external site it is so to say "user contributed" and if it is gone, well it is gone. If it's offered from the main project it is expected to be offered from the main project. This on the other hand always also requires a suitable build requirement. I'd vote for being not to abitous here and prefer "user contributed" via external links. But we should discuss this here and also with Pascal once he's back. -- Kind regards, / War is Peace. | Freedom is Slavery. Alexander Wagner | Ignorance is Strength. | | Theory : G.
