Hello everyone,

I am new in this list. Until recently I did not know there was scid. It's
wonderful. Thanks to the people that did and have been doing such a nice
job.

To the point. I installed scid in a linux machine (slackware). Everything
seems to work perfectly. But the option for which I was most eager does not
want to work: the "Play" option. I already read a lot of the messages but
I did not find how to repair my problem, except that I learnt how to use the

"Play - Training - Openings" option. And this is the only one that seems to
work (thanks Henk).

Next I give the results/error messages of 4 tests on different options of
Play

=========
1) Play serious game:

bad listbox index "": must be active, anchor, end, @x,y, or a number
bad listbox index "": must be active, anchor, end, @x,y, or a number
    while executing
".configSerGameWin.fengines.fEnginesList.lbEngines get $chosenEngine"
    invoked from within
".configSerGameWin.fbuttons.close invoke"
    ("uplevel" body line 1)
    invoked from within
"uplevel #0 [list $w invoke]"
    (procedure "tk::ButtonUp" line 22)
    invoked from within
"tk::ButtonUp .configSerGameWin.fbuttons.close"
    (command bound to event)

2) Play tactical game

"Phalanx or Crafty not found"

3) Tactics

After saying "engine not found"

can't read "::analysis(multiPV5)": no such element in array
can't read "::analysis(multiPV5)": no such element in array
    while executing
"lindex $::analysis(multiPV$::tactics::engineSlot) 0"
    (procedure "::tactics::stopAnalyze" line 6)
    invoked from within
"::tactics::stopAnalyze"
    ("after" script)

and then I have to "kill -9" the process because the "Application error"
window does not die after clicking "OK".

4) Calculation of variations

bad listbox index "": must be active, anchor, end, @x,y, or a number
bad listbox index "": must be active, anchor, end, @x,y, or a number
    while executing
".configCalvarWin.fengines.lbEngines get $chosenEngine"
    invoked from within
".configCalvarWin.fbuttons.start invoke"
    ("uplevel" body line 1)
    invoked from within
"uplevel #0 [list $w invoke]"
    (procedure "tk::ButtonUp" line 22)
    invoked from within
"tk::ButtonUp .configCalvarWin.fbuttons.start"
    (command bound to event)

==========

I have to add that I checked the Makefile and compared with the installed
directories and files. Everything seems to be in its place, that means
specifically the engines under $SHAREDIR/engines/Phalanx, Toga, crafty.

On the other hand, the Analysis option does work, with scidlet, with my
installation of crafty-22.1 and with the version installed together with
scid, crafty-21.6.

May be someone has an idea about what I am missing?

Thanks

Fernando Cristancho
