Hi,
I worked on the way windows are handled in Scid :
http://prolinux.free.fr/scid/download/unstable/dock.jpg
this is turned on/off with the options-> windows menu, and a restart of Scid
is needed. Windows can be moved, merged into existing tabs, undocked ...
(right mouse button + drag and drop of tabs).
This is a work in progress, layouts are not saved but it is important to
notice this as this requires Tk 8.5
