Just tried this with swedish and hungarian, except that it took a while
to get it back from hungarian to english it worked here without a
problem with current cvs code.
I can confirm your crash for 3.6.26 _IF_ the pgn file contains enhanced
UTF chars. If the PGN file is 7bit ASCII (as it should be) I've no
problems again.
For Scid I set use
export LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
simply cause I play an opponent who's name is spelled with ΓΈ in CC. As
this match lasts for the whole 3.7 alpha/beta perioud and CC code
involves importing pgn all the time I wonder a bit about your problem
with beta4, however my default lang setting is english and not swedish.
Note, that I did also not get a crash on 3.7 cvs here even if I set it
to swedish.
Running Debian 4.1 with ActiveTcl-8.5 (no 8.5 in Debian stable, yet.
Therefore, if its a Tcl/Tk issue it would be nice to rise a bug in Ubuntu.)
Note that my build of 3.6.26 uses Tcl/Tk 8.4 as suppied by Debian, ie.
most likely the ancestor of your Tcl/Tk packages.

I build from cvs sources.
