Those setup buttons seem the only place in scid where "-activebackground" is
used.
Try removing "-activebackground $highcolor" and see how it goes.
[Edit the scid tcl file (I'm not sure where this is on a Mac. On Linux it's
/usr/local/bin/scid, windows it's scid.gui, or edit "tcl/edit.tcl" and
recompile]
